Steps of the Architectural Review Process

  1.  Thirty days prior to the commencement of any exterior project, the homeowner must submit a completed APPLICATION FOR EXTERIOR IMPROVEMENT along with the necessary paperwork required for that particular project. The Architectural Review Committee may not the only approval required to complete your project. Homeowners should contact the Queen Anne's County Board of Planning and Zoning before starting their project as well.
  2. The Architectural Review Committee will review the project to ensure that it is within the community guidelines and aesthetically pleasing, Your neighbors will also be notified by the Architectural Review Committee of your plans.
  3. Both committee members will sign off on the application and return it to you. You may now start your project keeping in mind that any exterior changes on your project will require a resubmission, noting the change.
  4. If your application was denied by one or more members, you may appeal the decision to the entire Board of Directors at an upcoming meeting. If your application was denied, please ask the committee the reasons for the denial and bring evidence why it should have not been denied to the meeting.
  5. If your appeal is accepted, you may start your project.

Consequences of Prior Board Approval

  1. Fines by the Architectural Review Board
  2. "Stop Work" order issued by Queen Anne's County
  3. Court fees and potential lawsuit on behalf of the Board
